Things we did over the holidays……

I’m a little behind in blogger world……..but since school is closed again today and were really trapped indoors again, why not post some blog posts.

We attended our cities Santa Parade.  We bundled them all up nice and warm…..to warm they started taking their gloves off.  Or was that because they couldn’t hang on to all that candy with their mitts on.  Each kid came home with a ziploc over flowing with candy.  They loved it.

Another tradition of ours since D and I were married is to take the Santa Train.  I think we missed one year out of 7.  Not bad because the one year we had a 1 week old.  Last year we had a 1 month old, but he was a trooper.  Whenever we go on this train we always try to think of fun things to do in the Vancouver area.  We try to make this day as “cheap” as possible. This year we headed to Burnaby Village as it was free.

This was probably the kids highlight. I don’t think I ever rode one of these as a kid….

The first year our kids weren’t actually scared to sit on Santa’s lap.  Do you like the olden day Santa or the modern day?  The kids were confused when the saw the one of the left…..he wasn’t wearing the suit they were used to.

Opening gifts with our little family on Christmas eve is another tradition.  Hearing the kids voices as they “snuck” downstairs in the morning is just priceless.  Even though our one daughter wasn’t too impressed with Santa for a little while about the “small” jewelry box she did finally warm up to the idea that she didn’t need a big one when she was 3.

The next week of Christmas holidays (from school) we had my sister and her family over.  These three woke up very excited every morning.  They could wake the whole house up with their energy, but we did try to keep them quiet. We had an enjoyable 5 days with 6 extra house guests.  Hopefully they didn’t feel too crowded and will come back.  I made them breakfast every morning…….I AM NOT a MORNING PERSON Smile

Opening gifts with D’s family is another tradition.  This year we did this also while celebrating Uncle M’s birthday.  We were also stuffed with Turkey that night. 

That was our holiday celebrations in 2011 (ok and 2012 as the last one was New Year’s Day).

A little bubbly

This was the very first night that I officially slept well.  Finally transitioned over to the Dutch time zone.... Started the day with by filling the stomach with a good Dutch style breakfast.  If you're not Dutch could you guess what it is? With full stomachs we headed out for the day.  It was a rather frightening start down the skinny Dutch little road.  It barely can handle a bike and a car passing each other.  So to our surprise a massive semi truck was barreling down the road.  We pulled over in a pullout but  became trapped between a large truck and the canal. That canal was not looking too pretty for a swim.... Glad we didn't end up going for that swim and the we had no extra rental car bills to pay as the truck nearly missed the sideview mirror.  After safely arriving to the park n' ride we caught the bus.  This is a fantastic system if you're in Holland!  It cost 5 Euro to park the car and ride the bus for up to 5 people! ...

Trips and treasures

A little while ago I put the link back up on my social media page from a blog about Mother's Day.  Although I get very emotional about the day and the upcoming to the day with my precious Mom being in heaven, I do remember that I have the honour of celebrating motherhood and celebrating with other mothers in my life.  I know it can be a difficult day for many in different ways.   My one little guy who hangs out with me a lot gave me a special treat when I was down....how can you not resist his smile, with a card, cup of water and an apple all delivered with that big smile and even bigger heart. Shortly after that day I was given the privilege of going on a much desired field trip with my daughter.  If you know me at all, or even through this blog you know how much I desire the ocean and the wonders of it.  This trip to Salt Spring Islands did not fail me or my wonder of our wonderful creator.  We have so much more to experience from the ocean..... ...

2021

 Turned the calendar to 2021 a while ago and just have not sat down behind the computer to type away in a while.  I just had those summer 2020 blog posts waiting to be completed.  At last that goal was accomplished and I feel like the rest of 2020 went awash......I made a video to summarize our year and felt like that was good enough to complete the year.   I won't say our 2021 had the most marvellous start.  Our family was in isolation and I can't remember what day it was of 24 days being inside our home that we rolled the new year in.  However we were loved upon by many family members and friends over the time of being indoors.  Also what better time in the world to be "stuck" at home as you can get your grocery deliveries and any other shopping done and delivered all within 24 hours.  We did not suffer.  We may have been a little stir crazy at points, but we made the best of it!
