The Highlight of the trip was Day 3

The Catamaran we are going to be on.

Us on the boat!  So excited!  D and I got to sit on the very front where there were trampolines.  Most people were too frightened to sit on them.  Maybe it had something to do with seeing the water through the mesh.  I didn’t care, this was the best spot in the house to watch for the whales.  Oh did I mention that is what we were doing?  We are the hunt for some whales out in the Pacific. Warning these may be more exciting to the owner of the photos!

Our first sighting of a whale on the boat…..

These are a Mom and her calf.  Humpback whales to not eat when they are in Hawaii.  They come to have their babies and to just have a whole lot of fun!  This Mom is teaching her calf all the moves of a whale.

Then the Male escort that was following the mom and calf came up to check out our boat and to make sure we are harmless. Look how close he got.  It was awesome!

When had fun watching those 3 whales for a while and decided to head out for some more whales, which we found plenty of.  Here we are on the chase of a juvenile.  The boats have to stop at 100 yards from the whales.  As the captain says they have to stop within 100 yards, but if the whale comes to the boat……well that is a whole different story!

Humpbacks are great at showing off some fabulous moves like breeching……but we didn’t catch this guy just his humongous splash!

Another whale that came up to our boat.  He even did a spy hop for us. D missed it and had the camera that time Smile.

See the little speck in this photo.  This is how far away the whales are from our condo.  It was so worth spending the money to get on that boat and see them up close.  One year I would like to go back in the summer months when apparently swarms of dolphins show up in Maui.

  1. It's amazing how close you got to the whales! You got some great shots too! Dolphins would be exciting to see close up too, but I don't think you need to go to Hawaii for that.
