On Top of Maui

Yes, sweatshirts in Maui are sometimes needed.  That is when you are about 9,000 feet above sea level.  Still had shorts on!!

This was the day that we were going to challenge ourselves with a hike.  We have been on Mt. Haleaka in the previous 2 trips to watch the sunset.  This year we didn’t feel like driving on the insane switch back road with all the other tourists after sunset so we went for a day trip.  This mean you have to do something while you are there.  Since my neighbor and Jillian has whipped me into shape the past few months I thought I could easily hand 1600 feet of hiking into the crater to get a view of the closest cone head.

The easiest hike ever was going through my brain as we started going down all these hills.  It doesn’t feel to steep, the walkway is very smooth…….don’t worry at this point your mind is being brainwashed as hiking down the whole time…well is easy!

Everything is so barren.  So different than the hikes we are used to with all the trees around us.  You don’t really have a sense of where you’re going sometimes…….here you thinking over in your mind oh were almost there its just a little longer.  But, those open spaces are deceiving.  Smile  Well it could just be I’m not used to it.

Our Lunch Destination!  The hike was worth it.  Going to see different things and places in this world really opens your eyes to the vastness of our Creator’s handiwork.  Isn’t he just Awesome!  He has done so many marvelous things and yet our eyes won’t ever take it all in.

Silverswords, pretty much the only vegetation that grows here.  We didn’t see any flowering.  They can be 50 years old before they flower and once they flower they die.

That concluded our hike….well that isn’t true we headed back up to where the car was located.  Even though at some points it felt like my heart was going to pound out of my chest we made it in fairly good time.  The best part was the next day I wasn’t sore!!!!  (ok maybe not the best, but it did feel good to think I’m in some sort of good condition).

    Isn't it great to be in shape? Those Silverswords are amazing plants. We enjoyed your pictures, but I don't think I'll want to walk in such a barren spot. Give me the lush rainforest anytime.

A little bubbly

This was the very first night that I officially slept well.  Finally transitioned over to the Dutch time zone.... Started the day with by filling the stomach with a good Dutch style breakfast.  If you're not Dutch could you guess what it is? With full stomachs we headed out for the day.  It was a rather frightening start down the skinny Dutch little road.  It barely can handle a bike and a car passing each other.  So to our surprise a massive semi truck was barreling down the road.  We pulled over in a pullout but  became trapped between a large truck and the canal. That canal was not looking too pretty for a swim.... Glad we didn't end up going for that swim and the we had no extra rental car bills to pay as the truck nearly missed the sideview mirror.  After safely arriving to the park n' ride we caught the bus.  This is a fantastic system if you're in Holland!  It cost 5 Euro to park the car and ride the bus for up to 5 people! ...

Trips and treasures

A little while ago I put the link back up on my social media page from a blog about Mother's Day.  Although I get very emotional about the day and the upcoming to the day with my precious Mom being in heaven, I do remember that I have the honour of celebrating motherhood and celebrating with other mothers in my life.  I know it can be a difficult day for many in different ways.   My one little guy who hangs out with me a lot gave me a special treat when I was down....how can you not resist his smile, with a card, cup of water and an apple all delivered with that big smile and even bigger heart. Shortly after that day I was given the privilege of going on a much desired field trip with my daughter.  If you know me at all, or even through this blog you know how much I desire the ocean and the wonders of it.  This trip to Salt Spring Islands did not fail me or my wonder of our wonderful creator.  We have so much more to experience from the ocean..... ...

2021

 Turned the calendar to 2021 a while ago and just have not sat down behind the computer to type away in a while.  I just had those summer 2020 blog posts waiting to be completed.  At last that goal was accomplished and I feel like the rest of 2020 went awash......I made a video to summarize our year and felt like that was good enough to complete the year.   I won't say our 2021 had the most marvellous start.  Our family was in isolation and I can't remember what day it was of 24 days being inside our home that we rolled the new year in.  However we were loved upon by many family members and friends over the time of being indoors.  Also what better time in the world to be "stuck" at home as you can get your grocery deliveries and any other shopping done and delivered all within 24 hours.  We did not suffer.  We may have been a little stir crazy at points, but we made the best of it!
