The Big Surprises

For the past months we have been prepping to celebrate my parents 40th wedding anniversary.  It began in January with an idea to make a book for my parents.  My sister-in-law and I would get together regularly and work away at it.  Then some very exciting news happened with the expected arrival of a new niece or nephew to come in September…….this left a big project on my hands which I was more than happy to oblige at as long as everyone else (5 other siblings) did their part!

Here are a few peaks at this book.  Shutterfly is a wonderful company to work with as everyone could just upload photos that they liked and change their pages etc..

These pictures were fun to get.  I stole my parents wedding album right from under their nose……and they never noticed.  It was a good thing I snuck it back on time as my Mom did pull it out to show off on the actual day of the anniversary.

At the end of it all 99 pages filled with so many memories, moments and love.  The best part was watching everyone paging through the book and seeing the smiles. 

The second part of the anniversary that was secret was picking up a dozen roses from my Dad for my Mom.  I know this caused a lot of tears between my Dad and I. (See previous post about beautiful)  I really did take this job seriously.  It’s no easy task to buy the perfect flowers and that just right card for someone to give to their love………but the flowers are fairing very nicely!  They are as local as local can get (Victoria, BC) so I was super happy about that.  Oh and of course my dear Mom is enjoying them Smile

Overall I’m thankful that we could witness this special day that only happened because of something beautiful 40 years ago.  We spent a lovely evening with my Dad’s family and my Mom’s family (from the Netherlands) with cake, coffee, chocolate and great conversation.

Even though we don’t know the next steps of Dad’s care we witness every day that my parents hand it over to the Lord.  He will truly take care of us! “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”- Psalm 46:1

    That was a big project, Carla! I am sure that album will be looked at over and over. And the roses are beautiful.

A little bubbly

This was the very first night that I officially slept well.  Finally transitioned over to the Dutch time zone.... Started the day with by filling the stomach with a good Dutch style breakfast.  If you're not Dutch could you guess what it is? With full stomachs we headed out for the day.  It was a rather frightening start down the skinny Dutch little road.  It barely can handle a bike and a car passing each other.  So to our surprise a massive semi truck was barreling down the road.  We pulled over in a pullout but  became trapped between a large truck and the canal. That canal was not looking too pretty for a swim.... Glad we didn't end up going for that swim and the we had no extra rental car bills to pay as the truck nearly missed the sideview mirror.  After safely arriving to the park n' ride we caught the bus.  This is a fantastic system if you're in Holland!  It cost 5 Euro to park the car and ride the bus for up to 5 people! ...

Trips and treasures

A little while ago I put the link back up on my social media page from a blog about Mother's Day.  Although I get very emotional about the day and the upcoming to the day with my precious Mom being in heaven, I do remember that I have the honour of celebrating motherhood and celebrating with other mothers in my life.  I know it can be a difficult day for many in different ways.   My one little guy who hangs out with me a lot gave me a special treat when I was down....how can you not resist his smile, with a card, cup of water and an apple all delivered with that big smile and even bigger heart. Shortly after that day I was given the privilege of going on a much desired field trip with my daughter.  If you know me at all, or even through this blog you know how much I desire the ocean and the wonders of it.  This trip to Salt Spring Islands did not fail me or my wonder of our wonderful creator.  We have so much more to experience from the ocean..... ...

2021

 Turned the calendar to 2021 a while ago and just have not sat down behind the computer to type away in a while.  I just had those summer 2020 blog posts waiting to be completed.  At last that goal was accomplished and I feel like the rest of 2020 went awash......I made a video to summarize our year and felt like that was good enough to complete the year.   I won't say our 2021 had the most marvellous start.  Our family was in isolation and I can't remember what day it was of 24 days being inside our home that we rolled the new year in.  However we were loved upon by many family members and friends over the time of being indoors.  Also what better time in the world to be "stuck" at home as you can get your grocery deliveries and any other shopping done and delivered all within 24 hours.  We did not suffer.  We may have been a little stir crazy at points, but we made the best of it!
