The last days in the Netherlands


These posts don't have much story to them.  However the Saturday was probably my most favourite day of the whole trip.  I wanted to journey to the Netherlands to connect with my Mom's family again.  It's just such a huge part of her story and it was just nice to be with family!  Even if I haven't met half of these people as soon as I was with them I was comfortable and everything felt familiar.  I could pick up character traits from siblings.  So thankful we were allowed to make this journey to spend time and create memories with loved ones.

After I asked them all to do some crazy pose....I don't know why they all listened? 
Then I said if the picture didn't work we could swap heads meaning in photoshop....however we all moved around instead.  Should've heard the laughter.  Sometimes language is still a barrier even if my  Dutch family can speak amazing English!!


On Sunday after church we stopped at this house where my Mom spent a good part of her life!  My Oma lived here and I've been inside when i was 3, but have no memory.  Apparently my Oma's neighbours still live next door!  (we think they must be very old)

Our fantastic hosts the last days we were in the Netherlands along with their beautiful daughters and 1 almost new member to the family :)  Wish we could just fly back easily for the wedding in September.

They were locked out of their house after our family day...haha had to get the neighbour to climb over the fence and then climb into an upper bedroom window to break in.  
We also had rice in bed for dinner
Yes!  I also thought it was a joke, but it's the old ways of making rice.

Inside our luxurious hotel.  So fun sleeping in the attic.  No wasted space!

And back in the airport getting ready to head home.  Wish i could have a table like this one!  
This trip was memorable.  Thank you to my husband, sister and brother in law for taking this journey with me.  
God be with all my Dutch family until we meet again!
And remember the VL Abbotsford castle is open to all of my Dutch relatives!

A little bubbly

This was the very first night that I officially slept well.  Finally transitioned over to the Dutch time zone.... Started the day with by filling the stomach with a good Dutch style breakfast.  If you're not Dutch could you guess what it is? With full stomachs we headed out for the day.  It was a rather frightening start down the skinny Dutch little road.  It barely can handle a bike and a car passing each other.  So to our surprise a massive semi truck was barreling down the road.  We pulled over in a pullout but  became trapped between a large truck and the canal. That canal was not looking too pretty for a swim.... Glad we didn't end up going for that swim and the we had no extra rental car bills to pay as the truck nearly missed the sideview mirror.  After safely arriving to the park n' ride we caught the bus.  This is a fantastic system if you're in Holland!  It cost 5 Euro to park the car and ride the bus for up to 5 people! ...

Trips and treasures

A little while ago I put the link back up on my social media page from a blog about Mother's Day.  Although I get very emotional about the day and the upcoming to the day with my precious Mom being in heaven, I do remember that I have the honour of celebrating motherhood and celebrating with other mothers in my life.  I know it can be a difficult day for many in different ways.   My one little guy who hangs out with me a lot gave me a special treat when I was down....how can you not resist his smile, with a card, cup of water and an apple all delivered with that big smile and even bigger heart. Shortly after that day I was given the privilege of going on a much desired field trip with my daughter.  If you know me at all, or even through this blog you know how much I desire the ocean and the wonders of it.  This trip to Salt Spring Islands did not fail me or my wonder of our wonderful creator.  We have so much more to experience from the ocean..... ...

2021

 Turned the calendar to 2021 a while ago and just have not sat down behind the computer to type away in a while.  I just had those summer 2020 blog posts waiting to be completed.  At last that goal was accomplished and I feel like the rest of 2020 went awash......I made a video to summarize our year and felt like that was good enough to complete the year.   I won't say our 2021 had the most marvellous start.  Our family was in isolation and I can't remember what day it was of 24 days being inside our home that we rolled the new year in.  However we were loved upon by many family members and friends over the time of being indoors.  Also what better time in the world to be "stuck" at home as you can get your grocery deliveries and any other shopping done and delivered all within 24 hours.  We did not suffer.  We may have been a little stir crazy at points, but we made the best of it!
