Goodbye Rooster!

This photo stared us down daily.... Unsure if you can see the price tag 800 euros...
Today was the last day with the rooster cockadoodling to wake us up bright and early. And what do you know. None of us woke up from him making his song this last morning. 
Quickly bought some cheese from the farm we stayed at...lekker!

We packed up all our bags and then we travelled off to Zwolle to have our first Canadian size cup of coffee with our beautiful Tante (aunt for those who don't know any Dutch). 

After a lovely visit we stopped to explore the town of Giethoorn by boat. This was a destination of mine as it brings back many good memories of when I travelled to Holland with my parents many years before.  It was a favourite of my Mom's.  She would bike from her town on holidays to go sailing in knee deep water :)
We travelled fine by boat.....but some tourist didn't do so well. We had some good chuckles.   Apparently Giethoorn is on the latest world edition of Monopoly and so has become a very popular place to visit.

It's easy to be calm on this tiny little boat in the lake knowing if you fell in you just can stand up and walk to shore :)

We stopped in Meppel for dinner at the 3 Kalkovens. I think they had to start up the ovens and stoves just for our dinner.  
Dinner by the canal at the 3 kalkovens....it was a really good dinner even if we were 4/5 customers.  Highly recommended if you're in the area 

We then drove on to Hoogeveen to stay with our fantastic cousins. After a drink on their beautiful gazebo we headed for a walk to the historical sight of my grandparents   The old farmhouse and Flokstra pad. This is very big historical story in Hoogeveen the town keeps our family history alive.

Although we never met this man personally it's still an amazing story and part of our history.  Thankful that God could use our Great Grandfather to stay strong and care for people.

A little bubbly

This was the very first night that I officially slept well.  Finally transitioned over to the Dutch time zone.... Started the day with by filling the stomach with a good Dutch style breakfast.  If you're not Dutch could you guess what it is? With full stomachs we headed out for the day.  It was a rather frightening start down the skinny Dutch little road.  It barely can handle a bike and a car passing each other.  So to our surprise a massive semi truck was barreling down the road.  We pulled over in a pullout but  became trapped between a large truck and the canal. That canal was not looking too pretty for a swim.... Glad we didn't end up going for that swim and the we had no extra rental car bills to pay as the truck nearly missed the sideview mirror.  After safely arriving to the park n' ride we caught the bus.  This is a fantastic system if you're in Holland!  It cost 5 Euro to park the car and ride the bus for up to 5 people! ...

Trips and treasures

A little while ago I put the link back up on my social media page from a blog about Mother's Day.  Although I get very emotional about the day and the upcoming to the day with my precious Mom being in heaven, I do remember that I have the honour of celebrating motherhood and celebrating with other mothers in my life.  I know it can be a difficult day for many in different ways.   My one little guy who hangs out with me a lot gave me a special treat when I was down....how can you not resist his smile, with a card, cup of water and an apple all delivered with that big smile and even bigger heart. Shortly after that day I was given the privilege of going on a much desired field trip with my daughter.  If you know me at all, or even through this blog you know how much I desire the ocean and the wonders of it.  This trip to Salt Spring Islands did not fail me or my wonder of our wonderful creator.  We have so much more to experience from the ocean..... ...

2021

 Turned the calendar to 2021 a while ago and just have not sat down behind the computer to type away in a while.  I just had those summer 2020 blog posts waiting to be completed.  At last that goal was accomplished and I feel like the rest of 2020 went awash......I made a video to summarize our year and felt like that was good enough to complete the year.   I won't say our 2021 had the most marvellous start.  Our family was in isolation and I can't remember what day it was of 24 days being inside our home that we rolled the new year in.  However we were loved upon by many family members and friends over the time of being indoors.  Also what better time in the world to be "stuck" at home as you can get your grocery deliveries and any other shopping done and delivered all within 24 hours.  We did not suffer.  We may have been a little stir crazy at points, but we made the best of it!
