Caye Caulker

Image
Today we got a ferry ride over to Caye Caulker After crashing into the dock upon departure and hitting large waves we made it safe and sound, a little seasick to Caye Caulker.  We however stayed inside the boat as the tropical rains came pouring down.  The ferry guy says I don’t want you getting sick out in the rain....I argued a little rain doesn’t hurt. Which he then replied, yes it’s a little blessing coming down isn’t it? Hung out around Caye Caulker for most of the day.  It had a different vibe then SAN Pedro....I’m glad we are staying in SAN Pedro. I like it a lot better. It feels cleaner and the people seem more friendly.   The Caye is a little quieter as it has no vehicles and only a few golf carts.   The popular saying in the Caye is go slow! Also we had 360 degree views of the ocean which was beautiful.  Finally a place to watch the sunset, but we didn’t hang oug long enough. We ate some lunch on the water while being entertained by a l...

4*4 Belize style

Today we wanted to drive like the locals as well as many tourists and rented a golf cart. Hang on to your hat while driving. So much fun!  We explored the northern part of the island today.  Lounged at secret beach....walked into the water.  We also braved the crazy roads, dashing as many pot holes as possible and hitting just as many.  We braved heading more north to find beautiful ocean views before the rainstorm came splashing in! Delicious food at Secret Beach Along with a beautiful view And the BEST husband :) Selfie before the crazy rains came coordinated my outfit with the ocean........ How to transport trees in Belize.... After a brief break back at our condo we explored a little further south.  Trying to find a nice sunset location.  Here we saw the true Belizian lifestyle of living. It makes us realize how accustomed to cleanliness we are. That was the end of our golf cart experience.  Back t...

Sharks and Rays

What a day!  The sunshine is beaming once again and the palm trees are swaying. Today was time to explore the ocean waters of the Caribbean. We jumped on a boat about 50m away from our condo and headed into the sea while the warm sun rays beamed down on us.  We arrived at Mexico Rocks a popular snorkel destination. First thing we saw....a shark. 2 came swimming up to the boat in record speeds and frightened me. I think I learned that I have a shark phobia.  Jumping into the water to snorkel after that wasn’t easy for me. I did it though.  Death gripping D’s hand the whole trip. The company we snorkelled with. YIKES Survived the snorkel without any bites  It’s a good thing I managed to miss the site of the next 2 sharks that were swimming close by.  I am however not afraid of rays....I had one swim less than an arms length away from the my belly. That was kind of cool! We could see lots of rays from the boat as welll. Some of th...

A shot in the dark

2nd day in Belize.  Woke up to sunshine beaming in.  And warmth... D cooked up breakfast. We were so focused on the expiration dates we forgot To check the eggs 🥚 What a surprise. 7/12 isn’t bad right? We walked lots  today down all kinds of streets. Pulled out my “real” camera to document the experience in full experience.  Many docks to lounge on. Golf carts are the way to go.... took this for our daughter who has started playing basketball after school....this looks like a fun place to play? Golf Cart Parking down our street. We returned to our condo and enjoyed some local tortillas and salsa by the palapa while people watching. One of my favourite things to do...and we have prime location for people watching. Across the way are some palm trees that are both popular for locals and tourists alike. This is a Palapa Close by our home from home Later we went for another walk to try watch the sunset. The streets were starting to fee...

Caribbean Sea

We arrived safe and sound into Belize!  The sun was just about to rise when we landed. Flying in was beautiful and we made it through the airport along with our luggage that we hoped would make it. (Yay for that). We hopped into a taxi to ride into Belize city. This crazy driver sped down the bumpy streets of Belize in his Caprice style car. Passing the old school busses and old trucks while ignoring the speed limit. He kept trying to get us to take the other ferry but he didn’t convince us. Savings of the non-touristy ferry were too good and besides more authentic right? As well as the additional taxi costs!  We were informed 24 flights land in Belize this day so we think he was in a hurry to pickup more passengers. Make money when you can.  The sights and sounds of a new place are always intriguing. My first impression wasn’t great....things aren’t too pretty around the city.  Maybe once the city wakes up it gets more fun?  The people however are all super...

3rd week of January...

The new normal... 2018 has been full of new challenges and shifting of things in life. I’ve officially taken on a part time position. This means Mom, school and Work are apart of regular life. The week felt a little less chaotic even if it still had lots going on....I just keep saying one day at a time. Some highlights of the week. Ms. A played her first basketball game against a oher school. I enjoyed some classsics with my sister in laws at the Orpheum.  And the hubby and I are off on holidays!!!! Ok who am I kidding. It was chaos. Packed pretty much all 4 kids closets up for their destinations of fantastic friends and families home who are taking our children in for a week. Then I packed my own gear....Beach ware and rain gear as the destination isn’t just sun supposedly. After that chaos and giving big hugs to the kids, some get 8 hugs and 8 kisses to make up for lost time. Everything was brought to their destination. I think my nerves settled a little once...

Bam! Welcome to 2018....

Wow!  The year has barely seemed like it started and it feels like it's been a Tornado so far! The first day of the year we started off with celebrating some family members birthdays and eating some Dutch delicacies of olibollen and kroket. The remainder of the day we hung out with my extended family in celebration of the New Year. The 3rd day into the new l year involved signing into my first online class.  My brain is a little rusty!!!  I'm looking forward to the challenge that University has to offer even if it means a little hard work, and writing a 2500 word essay.  (ahhhh a little panicked about that!)  It has been a very long time since I've had any formal education.... Meanwhile we were continuing to live our somewhat usual schedule of taking care of this cutie. It’s very helpful when my kids are home from school to help entertain daycare.   It’s a win-win. It was also a crazy week of weather...but made for some interesting tobogganing in ...
