Rules

1. Remove the 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s and Jokers from the deck. All the reaming 36 cards are dealt.

2. Before dealing cut for the highest card to determine who deals first at each table. Then rotate the deal to the left after each hand. The player to the left of the dealer leads off the hand.

3. The person playing the highest card of the suit led (i.e., spades, clubs, diamonds or hearts_ or the highest trump card (in rounds that have trump suits) takes the “trick” and plays first in the next trick. Players must follow suit if possible. For example, a trump card cannot be used to take a trick unless the player has no cards in the suit that was led (for the uninitiated, a trump suit is one that is designated to be of higher value than the other suits.).

4. Each trick taken, counts for 10 points.

5. You play with a partner who sits opposite you. There are two teams per table. The team making the most tricks is the “winner” for the individual hand. Record the score you achieved with your partner in each round on your individual score card.

6. There is a change of players every Round (four hands): High scorers for the round moved toward the Head (#1) table; losers stay where they are. In all cases there is a change of partners in the next round of play. (To minimize boasting about the abilities of your particular gender, we usually insist that teams always have a male and female partner.) Winners at the head table remain there, losers at the head table to the bottom table.

7. Odds and Ends
a) If there is an odd number of couples the losing team at the head table sits out a round before starting at the bottom table. At the end of play, all those who did not sit out a round drop the score of their lowest round before adding up a total score.
b) In the case of ties at the end of a round, quickly play another round of the 4^th hand (see below). Do not record the points scored in that hand; it is just a means to determine who goes to a higher table and who stays where they are.

If you are ever bored……..and feel like having 8 couples over this is the way to entertain. Often you hear a lot of laughter, or yelling at people, but in the end no feelings are hurt because it depends on your own individual score (ok maybe some people if they lose).  I will definitely host one of these again.  The goal though is to host a murder mystery night next.
