Caribbean Sea

We arrived safe and sound into Belize!  The sun was just about to rise when we landed. Flying in was beautiful and we made it through the airport along with our luggage that we hoped would make it. (Yay for that).
We hopped into a taxi to ride into Belize city. This crazy driver sped down the bumpy streets of Belize in his Caprice style car. Passing the old school busses and old trucks while ignoring the speed limit. He kept trying to get us to take the other ferry but he didn’t convince us. Savings of the non-touristy ferry were too good and besides more authentic right? As well as the additional taxi costs!  We were informed 24 flights land in Belize this day so we think he was in a hurry to pickup more passengers. Make money when you can. 
The sights and sounds of a new place are always intriguing. My first impression wasn’t great....things aren’t too pretty around the city.  Maybe once the city wakes up it gets more fun?  The people however are all super friendly which is so nice!  The smell of deep fry everywhere surrounds you. 
The one taxi driver first tried to sell us a ride then suggested the Spoonaz Cafe was a great place to eat.  We agreed. We enjoyed a delicious non-deepfryed breakfast. 





The city was beginning to wake up as we strolled around it. And yes it was looking a little better. Of course it’s the most beautiful closest to the cruise ship center.  While we’re on our walk anyone and everyone offers you a ride. Including this family that had 6 kids. Would the kids go in The trunk or on your lap if you jumped in?😀
It was time to head off to Amergris Caye.   Even if a local was trying to scare us out of going to San Pedro....thankfully we feel safe here. 
We enjoyed the beautiful waters of the Caribbean Sea 🌊  landed safe and sound.  We took a much calmer paced taxi ride to our destination on the island here. 


Then Caught up on some sleep.


Time to explore town and get some groceries....thankfully one guy told us to check expiry dates.... we managed to buy enough groceries for a few days.  However we are learning it’s probably better to stay in a cheaper place on the water and go out for dinner....
We cooked dinner and ate outdoors in the warm rain.  2 cats tried to join us for dinner....I’m sure they were disappointed when no food was left for them. I really don’t want cats at my feet every dinner. 
Walked the streeets on the hunt for dessert....found none.  So we stopped at the other local grocery store....we checked expiry dates when we could. But those raspberry flavoured dark chocolate was expired and not good.   We are trying the locally made chocolate and attempting to acquire the likes of it. 
That ended our first day in Belize.

A little bubbly

This was the very first night that I officially slept well.  Finally transitioned over to the Dutch time zone.... Started the day with by filling the stomach with a good Dutch style breakfast.  If you're not Dutch could you guess what it is? With full stomachs we headed out for the day.  It was a rather frightening start down the skinny Dutch little road.  It barely can handle a bike and a car passing each other.  So to our surprise a massive semi truck was barreling down the road.  We pulled over in a pullout but  became trapped between a large truck and the canal. That canal was not looking too pretty for a swim.... Glad we didn't end up going for that swim and the we had no extra rental car bills to pay as the truck nearly missed the sideview mirror.  After safely arriving to the park n' ride we caught the bus.  This is a fantastic system if you're in Holland!  It cost 5 Euro to park the car and ride the bus for up to 5 people! ...

Trips and treasures

A little while ago I put the link back up on my social media page from a blog about Mother's Day.  Although I get very emotional about the day and the upcoming to the day with my precious Mom being in heaven, I do remember that I have the honour of celebrating motherhood and celebrating with other mothers in my life.  I know it can be a difficult day for many in different ways.   My one little guy who hangs out with me a lot gave me a special treat when I was down....how can you not resist his smile, with a card, cup of water and an apple all delivered with that big smile and even bigger heart. Shortly after that day I was given the privilege of going on a much desired field trip with my daughter.  If you know me at all, or even through this blog you know how much I desire the ocean and the wonders of it.  This trip to Salt Spring Islands did not fail me or my wonder of our wonderful creator.  We have so much more to experience from the ocean..... ...

2021

 Turned the calendar to 2021 a while ago and just have not sat down behind the computer to type away in a while.  I just had those summer 2020 blog posts waiting to be completed.  At last that goal was accomplished and I feel like the rest of 2020 went awash......I made a video to summarize our year and felt like that was good enough to complete the year.   I won't say our 2021 had the most marvellous start.  Our family was in isolation and I can't remember what day it was of 24 days being inside our home that we rolled the new year in.  However we were loved upon by many family members and friends over the time of being indoors.  Also what better time in the world to be "stuck" at home as you can get your grocery deliveries and any other shopping done and delivered all within 24 hours.  We did not suffer.  We may have been a little stir crazy at points, but we made the best of it!
