Day 4 in Rome........walk walk walk

Well J and I started our day before noon this time.  We were determined to get going.  We had our first attempt at taking the bus by ourselves.  Now this may seem simpler than it is.......we first took the metro to the place where we needed to get onto Bus 271 (or something).  We managed to find the right intersection for the metro.......but now to find the bus stop we needed.  Well we walked around the intersection and up this road and that road etc.  We finally found one street with the bus # on the sign.  Well it had this huge Italian warning on it, but we can't read Italian so we sort of ignored it.  When the first bus that should've stopped at the stop didn't stop, we thought the signed must've meant this spot was closed.  So we walked up the street to the next stop.  We than are reading the sign trying to figure out if were gonna go the right way, which we weren't thankfully we found this out by running into an American couple who were headed the same location as us.  So we crossed the road and waited FINALLY for the right bus.  It probably took us 1/2 an hour to find the right bus stop, but we made it!  Our destination was the catacombs.  When we arrived they were of course closed.  They like to take from 12-2 off in Italy for a siesta I guess.  We weren't too impressed, so we thought we'd walk down to the Appian Way.  A famous "no traffic" cobblestone road.  Now this took a little longer than anticipated.  We hit some cobblestone, but J insisted this is not what the books said it looked like..........so we walked more.  Well when we finally reached the Appian way you wouldn't believe it, but it was closed for construction.  Now we could see just past the construction and thought we could walk alongside the road and meet up with it later.  Here we ran into another American trying to do the same thing as us.......well he started following us.  I noticed the path we were on wasn't directing us any closer to the Appian way rather walking us straight back into the city of Rome.  I forced J to turn around, but the American???  We think he made it back to the city that way :)

And we had a nice walk that night, just J and I, around the colloseum as D had to be at some fancy dinner.
